Volleyball Announces Maggie Baumert as Assistant Coach

first_imgDES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University head volleyball coach has announced the addition of Maggie Baumert to his staff as an assistant coach.Baumert, a native of Elkhorn, Neb., and former standout at Creighton University joins the Bulldogs after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at Central Michigan. Baumert will work primarily with the setters at Drake and serve as the Bulldogs’ recruiting coordinator.”Maggie is an outstanding up-and-coming coach that comes to Drake highly recommended,” McBroom said. “She espouses the core values that will make her a great fit in our program and the culture that we have established.”Maggie Baumert joined the Central Michigan volleyball program as a volunteer assistant coach in August, 2016 and was promoted to full-time assistant coach the following season.At CMU, Baumert worked with the setters and the team’s offensive systems.She began her coaching career working camps while at her alma mater, Creighton, and for three years with Volleyball Club Nebraska.As a student-athlete, Baumert was a standout setter at Creighton, where she helped lead the Bluejays to BIG EAST regular-season and tournament championships in 2014 and 2015.”As a player, Maggie led her team to the NCAAs, which is one of the goals of our program,” McBroom. “Complimenting her experience and leadership as a student-athlete, she has gained tremendous experience at Central Michigan and we will look forward to the impact Maggie will have on our program.”She was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the league all-tournament squad in 2015 when the Bluejays advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.Baumert earned her bachelor of science with a major in psychology from Creighton in 2016 and her master’s from CMU in 2018.Baumert joins a Drake program that is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history that amassed a 23-10 record in 2017. The 2017 team made history with its first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament appearance since 2010 and the team’s 23 wins were the third most in program history and most since 2010. Additionally, the team’s 12 conference wins were the second most by the program in an 18-game MVC schedule. The Bulldogs return 10 student-athletes from that team, including a pair of All-MVC selections for the 2018 team.The Bulldogs begin the 2018 campaign August 24-25 at the Sam Houston State Classic.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
