A Stegosaurus fossil has been found in Portugal, reported Live Science. Previously this species with its spiked tail and prominent rows of plates on its back was only known from North America. A tooth, some leg bones and part of the backbone have been unearthed. So far, the fossil looks indistinguishable from its North American cousins. The only other North American dinosaur found in Europe is Allosaurus.Scientists infer land bridges at certain times, but admit that much is unknown: “While the similarity bolsters the land-bridge case, it provides no information on the distribution and duration of those bridges.” Creationists suspect that much of the world’s land mass was connected before the Flood. Every data point is like a puzzle piece for a completed picture hidden from view. No one knows how many pieces there are but we probably have only a small fraction. Before this find, it was easy to argue on lack of evidence that Stegosaurus was limited to the North American continent. One piece of evidence can blow that idea out of the running. The more pieces the better, but one should not expect that a picture in the mind’s eye is free of presuppositions.(Visited 8 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0

The East Khasi Hills district administration on Monday lifted night curfew from Meghalaya capital Shillong in view of improvement in the law and order situation. The curfew was imposed 80 days ago on June 1, a day after a quarrel over the parking of a bus in Punjabi Lane or Harijan Colony snowballed into a communal stand-off between the Dalit Sikhs of the area and local tribal people.“The night curfew has been completely lifted. We wanted to continue the night curfew till August 15, but waited for clearance from the police before issuing an official notification today (Monday),” East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner P.S. Dkhar told The Hindu.Harijan Colony and 13 surrounding localities had been under total curfew since June 1. The daytime curfew in these localities was gradually reduced before being lifted a month later. Senior police officers in Shillong, however, said security personnel will continue to guard vulnerable areas. This follows intelligence inputs that miscreants might target Harijan Colony, a prime area in the heart of the city, again.Developers and local politicians have allegedly been eyeing the colony to set up a shopping complex. There have been attempts to evict the Dalit Sikhs who the British had brought from Punjab as sanitation workers in the 1850s.
KANANASKIS, Alta. — The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says lack of oxygen likely played a role in a plane crash southwest of Calgary that killed two people a year ago.The board says in a report that hypoxia, or in-flight oxygen deprivation, caused the pilot to lose control before crashing in the Kananaskis area on Aug. 1, 2018.It says the pilot was travelling in a Piper PA-31 Navajo with a survey technician and they were headed to the Springbank Airport near Calgary. The TSB says although a portable oxygen system was available on the plane, the pilot was not continuously using it while the aircraft was above 4,000 metres above sea level, which is required by regulation. It says hypoxia slows down body functions, but its onset can be slow and gradual, so it’s likely the pilot did not recognize the symptoms. The board also found that flight crews do not undergo practical hypoxia training and there is a risk they will not recognize early symptoms in higher altitudes.WATCH: Two dead in Kananaskis plane crash

Creative CommonsAt a time when conservation of animals, especially tigers, is the talk in the country, a group of villagers of the Mataina village in Uttar Pradesh mercilessly beat an adult tigress to death because she mauled and injured a person belonging to the village earlier that day.A full two-minute video of the disturbing incident emerged with the person talking the video giving a voice-over, explaining what happened. The tigress was six-years-old and had broken ribs and injuries across her body. She was cremated after the forest officials conducted a post-mortem, NDTV reports.Warning : this is disturbing content . A 5 year old adult tigress was beaten to death by villagers in UP’s #Pilibhit on thursday afternoon . In this mobile video shot by a villager , there ‘s even background commentary on why they are killing the tigress ! Really sad ! pic.twitter.com/FY7ToT3TGA— Alok Pandey (@alok_pandey) July 26, 2019 The incident took place in a village close to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on Wednesday afternoon. It is situated 240 kilometres away from Lucknow. “She had sustained fractures and injuries from sharp-edged weapons like spears on almost every part of her body. She also had broken ribs,” H Rajamohan, the director of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve told IANS.At least 30 people participated in beating the animal up and the police have filed an FIR against 31 villagers. They have been charged under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960. Reports claim that the villager did not let the forest officials through and take her to the hospital till she was dead.”A forest team did reach the spot but by that time, the tigress was in so much pain that even an attempt to tranquilize her would have added to her plight,” Vaibhav Shrivastava , Pilibhit’s District Magistrate said.”The tigress could have been rescued and given timely medical aid as the forest officials had reached the spot. But their inability to rescue the injured big cat in a span of over nine hours undoubtedly reflects their inability in protecting wildlife in adverse situations,” GC Misra, the Former field director of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve said. The Pilibhit district and Pilibhit Tiger Reserve alone have witnessed the deaths of 16 tigers and 3 leopards since 2012. the most common causes of death were snaring, poisoning, and contagious diseases like canine distemper. However, there were very few cases of deaths due to infighting.
