Lead producer Ben Irving said Anthem’s future is “very bright.”  “We believe Anthem can be a very amazing game. We know we have some work today,” Irving said Saturday, though Anthem, published by EA, was originally missing from the E3 schedule. EA introduced new maps for Battlefield V, a new character for Apex Legends, a 15-minute gameplay demo reveal of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, FIFA 20’s Volta Mode and more.  Anthem, an online role-playing game for multiple participants, was announced at E3 2017 and launched by EA in February. Gamers play as Freelancers, who wear Iron Man-style exosuits and protect an unnamed planet. The Anthem of Creation is a mysterious force that creates powerful technology, wonders and threats. In the game’s main narrative, Freelancers must stop the evil Monitor from taking over Anthem. After the game’s release, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said the company expected Anthem to sell 5 million to 6 million units by the end of March. That time frame gave Anthem only about a month and a half to achieve the numbers. The game beat out new releases like Jump Force, Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus and became BioWare’s best selling title of the month for its first month. Amid the incoming reviews, the developers were combating bugs in the game. In early March, Anthem got a massive update that fixed problems with the loot quality, gameplay, bugs and more. The game’s developers were fixing bugs and crashes almost immediately after the February launch, though. When bugs weren’t crashing the game, they were making starter weapons ridiculously powerful. In April, Sony started issuing refunds to Anthem PS4 players who reported a bug that caused the console to improperly shut down. The game failed to meet EA’s expectations by May, even though the company said more money would come from microtransactions. EA didn’t say how many units Anthem had sold at the time, but the company said it remains “committed” to supporting the game’s ongoing live service.  The E3 video game conference in Los Angeles is expected to yield announcements from Electronic Arts, Xbox, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Square Enix and Nintendo. You can stream the conference online from a variety of platforms if you don’t plan on attending.  The big press conferencesMany of the biggest announcements happen before the show even opens, during a weekend of press conferences from the industry’s biggest names. All except Sony, which this year said it won’t be holding a press conference during the show, nor will it have a booth. The rest, however, will still be planning big announcements just before the show. Saturday, June 8Electronic Arts — The game maker showed off 15 minutes of gameplay for its upcoming adventure game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It also announced new features for its free-to-download Apex Legends last-man-standing battle royale game, offering a new character and weapon to play with. The company also showed off a new paid update for The Sims 4, called Island Living, that brings the series to a tropical beach. Finally, the company did discuss drama over the mixed reviews for its Anthem action adventure game, saying it “learned a lot” and had more updates and features planned soon.Sunday, June 9Microsoft / Xbox — The gaming giant’s biggest news was Project Scarlett, its next-generation Xbox, coming in 2020. The new device is up to 4x more powerful, the company said, and like the next-gen PlayStation it’ll include a fast non-mechanical SSD hard drive, and it’ll be powered by custom innards built with the help of chipmaker AMD.  The company also announced that Halo Infinite will launch alongside Project Scarlett next year. Meantime, Microsoft is starting public tests of its Project xCloud streaming service in October, promising people the ability to play high end games on their mobile devices while away from home. While fans wait, Microsoft announced an update to its Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 as well as a slew of new games. And action star Keanu Reeves, fresh off the success of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum, was on stage to announce his involvement with Cyberpunk 2077, which is coming next year.Bethesda — Bethesda kicked off its event with humility over the mixed response to Fallout 76, but quickly went back on the offensive. Fallout 76 got a new Battle Royale mode, Wolfenstein Youngblood received a new trailer and a co-op mode. We got a new game called Deathloop from the clever folks behind Dishonored and Bethesda introduced us to Orion, a piece of tech from ID Software designed to make game streaming better on services like Google Stadia. The lion’s share of attention, however, went to Doom Eternal, which looked fantastic in both single player and multiplayer.Monday, June 10PC Gaming Show — This annual PC Gaming Show is held at a theater a short walk from the Los Angeles Convention Center, but still draws a large crowd, filling the 1,700-person capacity Mayan Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Inside, the usual suspects, from Halo to Doom, were nowhere to be found. Instead, the crowd cheered for PC-centric games including Zombie Army 4, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Terraria: Journey’s End. (No, the game sequel problem isn’t any better on PCs.) The highlight was a brief on-stage appearance by legendary game designer Yu Suzuki, responsible for classic such as Hang-On and Virtua Fighter. His long-awaited Shenmue 3 is expected in November, 18 years after Shenmue 2. Ubisoft — The French gaming giant announced its next big dystopian hacking adventure game, Watch Dogs: Legion, launching March 2020. The new game is set in near-future post-Brexit London, where the economy is failing and government is breaking down. The company also announced a new television show, called Mythic Quest, that will launch on Apple TV Plus. And it celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Just Dance party games. Square Enix — 6 p.m. PT (9 p.m. ET)Tuesday, June 11Nintendo (livestream only) — 9 a.m. PT (noon ET)Originally published June 8, 11:36 a.m. PT. Female teacher in TN arrested for sexually abusing students husband provides evidence

first_img(Representational Image)Creative CommonsIn a shocking incident, a female teacher in Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, was arrested on Wednesday for sexually abusing her students. The arrest was made after her husband provided evidence to the District Collector.Nithya, 30, was already reprimanded and was fired from her previous place of employment for her abusive behaviour. However, many called out the school since they didn’t report the incident but just let her go, reports The News Minute.”Instead of taking corrective measures, they transferred her. After receiving her husband’s complaint, we enquired with the headmaster, who concealed the information and gave a report of her good conduct. Only when the social welfare department got involved were we able to unearth these details,” a district official was quoted as saying by TNM.Nithya first joined a school in Arni town of Tiruvannamalai in 2014 as an English teacher. However, she was let go due to her behaviour towards students and has been transferring to different schools since then.Due to problems in their marriage, Nithya and her husband separated in 2016. Since then, the husband visited many police stations accusing Nithya of adultery but the police did not act upon it. In December 2018, the husband came across compromising photos of Nithya on her mobile phone and showed them to the District Collector. According to TNM, she kept the photos to share them online. The Collector ordered an investigation in January and a complaint was filed by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU).Nithya was immediately removed from her post in the school and an investigation was launched. She was at last arrested on March 20, Wednesday. She has been sentenced by Justice Devanathan of Fast Track Mahila Court, Thiruvannamalai, to stay at the Velur Central Women’s Jail till April 4.Nithya has been charged under sections 10 and 14 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act). Section 10 addresses aggravated sexual assault while 14 is punishment for using a child for pornographic purposes. In a similar incident, a male math teacher in Mumbai was convicted of molesting three girl students in a story which came to light in October 2018. When the school principal stood up for the victims, she was removed from her position but was reinstated. However, the convicted teacher was allowed to join the same school in his previous teaching post two months after the court order. Googles Cloud Platform Pushes Into AAA Stadia Wont Require Its Use

The scalable infrastructure also supports game data and core services required for gameplay including matchmaking, high scores, stats, and inventory.Perhaps surprisingly, Google Cloud platform is not necessarily a part of Google’s big gaming initiative announced earlier this week at GDC: Stadia.“Google Cloud for games is basically supporting all platforms and all devices for Google Cloud,” Rayan said. “We look at Stadia as one platform, but in Google Cloud we host mobile, PC games, console games.”The way Stadia is set-up, he said, Google is bringing the console to the Edge Network, essentially putting the gaming system in the data centers.Google Cloud supports that, but it isn’t required.“There is an advantage to going with us because we are on the same network, but it’s not required,” he said. “Stadia as a platform is agnostic of what your backend is, it could be using any other cloud.”From Google’s point of view, Stadia games that also host their game servers on Google Cloud Platform can predictably expect low latency and data security, a benefit of leveraging Google’s private network. It isn’t clear what that would mean to games that decide to use different cloud services or how or if that would be in some way labeled as a potentially different service for customers.center_img News Wednesday that Ubisoft’s “The Division 2” runs on Google Cloud is the latest example of the company’s push to expand its services beyond the barebone resources for mobile titles, to rich, expansive support for major AAA games.“We were traditionally focused on mobile because of the strength of ‘Pokemon Go,’ but we have also now started to help console players with our partners,” Sunil Rayan, Google Cloud for Games Managing Director, told Variety in a recent interview. “Last year we had zero AAA games on Google Cloud, now we have six.”That includes “The Division 2,” battle royale phenom “Apex Legends” as well as work they’re doing with Square Enix.Rayan spelled some of that shift out in a blog post that went live Wednesday morning, in the midst of the Game Developers Conference.last_img read more
